Moon Pie Connection | Welcome to the world, Miles!

When I was growing up, I spent hours of everyday in my dad's mom-and-pop grocery store, Woodland Grocery. Dad's theme to the store was RC Colas and Moon Pies and that was on all of his t-shirts and in advertising. When we were dating, Hank told me the story that when he was born his mom was mad at his dad because his dad was standing there eating a Moon Pie while drinking a cola. It was a special connection that the two of us shared. Soo, naturally when I found out that I was pregnant, we decided to celebrate our son's birth by giving out RC Colas and Moon Pies.

Hank and I welcomed our little firecracker, Miles, to the world on the Fourth of July at 5:55pm. He weighed 8 pounds and was 21.5 inches long. The comment made the most to us by the doctors and nurses has been just how long his fingers and toes are

The labor went well. At our doctor's appointment on that Tuesday, the doctor determined that he was pretty large and they didn't want to wait to induce over the weekend. So, we went to the hospital late Tuesday night and I was induced Wednesday morning. I started pushing at around 5pm and delivered at 5:55. I started throwing up at the very end which apparently was the last push needed. After throwing up, I remember being told to do one last push, looking down and there he was. I was just in awe of seeing a baby! As you can imagine, it got pretty emotional in the room with Hank, Whitney, Kathleen (who took photos!) all having experienced the birth together.

We're so thankful for our obstetrician, Dr. Guichard, and all of the amazing nurses we met along the way. Everybody was just so helpful and kind. The amazing thing about the nurse who helped deliver Miles was her telling us how she had once nannied a Miles, who it turned out was the son of one of my colleagues at the Tampa Bay Times. Small world!

The last several days have been such an crazy/wonderful journey. We have been adjusting to a whole new sleep schedule and lack there of and learning new things about little Miles. When he cries it sounds like he's saying hello. He's very alert and loves to stretch with his limbs fully extended. He almost looks like a champion crossing the finish line. He is definitely a Florida kid and likes to be super warm. Being held all the time is his favorite pastime and he looks good in just about every color. I sit and stare at him endlessly as he looks around and takes everything wondering if he's going to look more like Hank or me, what his hair color and eyes will be (right now it's a light brown and his eyes look like a really dark navy). And finally, what kind of person he's going to be. Needless to say I'm so intrigued and in awe of him.

My sleep might be less and my emotions are on high alert right now but this is such an wonderful experience. I love this little guy :)

While I'm on a little break, I'm still working with clients to fulfill orders and designing albums. Please don't hesitate to email or call if you need anything at all! Finally, most of these images are courtesy of Kathleen Flynn, who we had with us for the birth. We cannot be more thankful for her and her beautiful way of seeing. So happy we were able to document the beginning of our little family :)
